As a part of reconstruction, we also provide humanitarian aid. Our civil affairs (CA) team on the PRT generally leads this, but I happened to be along on this mission because I was assessing some potential construction projects. As you can see from the picture it's straight out of national geographic magazine. We set up constantine wire to prevent the people from mobbing the truck and attempted to get the Afghan National Police (ANP) to organize the distribution. Unfortunately we had to step in to control the crowd and prevent the ANP from stealing more than their share of supplies. A general package that the people receive consists of flour, beans, a blanket, a solar powered radio, hats, gloves, and jackets. Don't get too blown away by the solar powered radio. It was made in China and didn't seem to work very well. It was a cold day to be standing out there for six hours even though there was no snow. Check out the mountains in the background though. We're surrounded by the white stuff.

Wow, great pictures. You are definitely in a different world. Keep up the good work. I wish you were here to enjoy a day off with me with plenty of the white stuff.
I love you! Aud
The scenery looks spectacular! We're proud of the good work all of you are doing over there. We had ice over the weekend, but not really any snow. The Moravian Christmas vigil was beautiful. Remember the year you and Audrey went with us? We miss you. Stay safe and warm.
Love, Mom
Nice scarf! Are you trying to fit in with the locals? I also like your buddy's combat tape measure. I'm surprised the Army doesn't issue camouflage ones...
I'm glad you're getting to see different aspects of the U.S. mission over there. I'll be interested to hear your perspective having seen it first hand. Take care and Merry Christmas.
Glad you like my scarf. Don't worry I have a picture coming up where I really do blend in with the locals. That guy next to me is my Seabee Senior Chief. He and I comprise the engineering team. I have my "tactical" tape measure on my side pocket as well. It has both metric and English units. Booyah!
I love the picture with the mountains in the background. I guess I didn't realize how cold it was there. I'm proud of you. Merry Christmas!!! We miss and love you very much. K
