Snow and below freezing temperatures are not conducive for construction. As a result, construction projects for the most part are put on hold until the spring thaw in March. Since construction stopped, I don't need to go to sites to conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC). Instead I go out looking for potential projects. Trust me, anywhere I go the elders always have a laundry list of requests. I'm, however, looking for the big impact projects. In this village I'm looking to build a cobblestone road. Notice the rutting in the street. You could imagine how muddy it gets in the spring. Cobblestone would eliminate the messy streets and employ young local villagers, which would provide them an alternative from joining the Taliban. My goal is to assess the feasibility of this project and similar ones, get the funding, and get them contracted in time for the spring building season. In case you were curious about the latest fashion trends in Afghanistan, notice the young boy's tilt of his hat. That's the latest bling bling fad for all of the young kids.

Thank you for keeping us updated on Afghan fashion. You certainly are the connoisseur, as we saw earlier. It looks like you met some friendly villagers.
I love you! Aud
So is the tilted hat the equivalent of kids in the U.S. wearing their baseball caps with the bill sideways?

Hi Drew,
I guess the weather must be pretty extreme. I'm glad you still have something to keep you busy. You're giving so much back to this country, and im sure they are extremely grateful. I hope the projects end in success!
