An Afghan Thanksgiving

We were fortunate enough to have the day off for Thanksgiving. Adhering to American tradition, we played some football to kick things off. Notice our lush football field with the tumbleweed blowing through it and a nice security wall. We, the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), played the Texas Agriculture Development Team (ADT) in a "friendly" game and amazingly had no major injuries. The notable 7200 feet elevation made substituting players a necessity. I could definitely feel the burn. Unfortunately, the Texas ADT proved to be the better team as they beat us by a few touchdowns. Everyone seemed to be having a good time though. We had two cheerleaders, SGT Acosta (from my previous blog) on a bullhorn talking smack, and a fella from ADT who tied his shirt off entirely too tight (sorry ladies no pictures of that one). Steers and queers.
The latter half of the day I gorged myself on the huge feast you gave us. We're talking turkey, ham, roast beef, all of the sides, shrimp cocktail, an ice cream station, and a huge spread of fruits. We don't always come across that much fresh fruit, but this outdid everything. While I was waiting in line at the DFAC (Dining Facility), I saw several people (mostly the Polish) walking out with handfuls of fruit to take back to their rooms. Some were even taking whole watermelons. I was getting ticked because I thought they'd run out, but upon entering I discovered there was no chance they were running out anytime soon. So thank you America for supplying a nice feast for all of the troops. You keep our morale high.

Hi Uncle Drew, this is Hannah, your favorite niece writing you under Aunt Cheryl's user name...we missed you at Thanksgiving and I hardly got anything to eat b/c the parents hogged it all. They ate first and made me watch the young ones. I liked the corn pudding the best. I put whip cream on everyone's dessert - Becca ate the whip cream off her pie but never managed to eat any pie (my Dad ate her pie though). Then we played dominos and I quit playing b/c I wanted to hold Ryan. Uncle Steve was the big loser. Mommy won the first round and she ended up in second place (my Dad won first place). Nana & Papa Dave couldn't play b/c it was dark and they had to go home. I miss you - please write back to my mom or dad's email address. I am going to try to open my own google email account soon. Love, Hannah - queen of whip cream

Hi Uncle Drew, I finally got my own email account after some struggles. If you are writing back to me you can just call me whip cream girl. I'm really good at putting whip cream on the pies! Tonight I'm sleeping over at Nana's the day after Thanksgiving. Nana is being a little bossy and Jake and Ryan are taking naps so it's kind of boring right now. I hope the boys wake up soon. I'm going to have some homemade veggie soup. Yum! I'm glad you had lots of good stuff to eat on Thanksgiving. I hope you come home soon. Bye from Hannah, the whip cream girl.

Hi Drew!
We missed your smiling face at the table for Thanksgiving, but we're glad you're safe and had plenty to eat. It sounds like quite a spread. Hannah said she was trying to make you laugh with her comments about not enough food (you know that's not true) and Nana being a little bossy (well, possibly true, but only because the group here drives me to it!) Thanks for the nice blog notes and photos.
Love, Mom
