Hearts and Minds - Take Two

My first attempt at winning the hearts and minds of the Afghans may not have been a great success, but here's my second attempt. The first picture is of me at a district center ribbon cutting ceremony. You can even see the ribbon in the background. This was a project that we funded and with the help of Ghazni government officials contracted to local nationals to have them design and construct it.

The second picture is of children from a local orphanage that we just visited. I met them with toy cars and was immediately swarmed by them. Some of their favorite items to receive are pens and gum. Kind of a unique combo, but what can you do. You'll notice an MRAP in the background. That's the armored truck we use to roll to our missions.

Drew, I'm enjoying reading about your experiences and seeing your photos...which look like every photo ever taken of you. Keep screwing up your face like that and it might stay that way. You have a sweet gun and a sweet armored ride...I'm mildly jealous. We miss you. Be extra careful out there. I truly feel that what you are doing now is one of the most important missions possible. It might feel like you're spinning your wheels sometimes, but this is the way that long-lasting peace and security is achieved and you're makin' it happen. Thanks for your sacrifice. ROCK ON, DUDE!
