Hearts and Minds

As you probably know, the scope of our work here is to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan nationals so that they trust us in the rebuilding of their country. Ultimately we can empower them to take over security, government, and the infrastructure of their country in its entirety. Essentially our goal is to work ourselves out of a job. The photo above is one of my first attempts to win their hearts and minds. The expressions on their faces clearly show that I've done my part to make a difference and win their hearts and minds. The person next to me is a contractor for a road project and the other gentleman is his engineer. An engineer in Afghanistan is a powerful title. Similar to the US with doctors, individuals with a degree in engineering are referred to as Engineer Asir or whatever his name may be. If only they knew the credentials of my engineering.
