For all of you scenery lovers, here's a picture of Ghazni City. On the hill you can see Old Town, which is just that. It is one of the original cities in Afghanistan. In it's day Ghazni was the center of trade because it had so many agricultural areas around it. I'm no historian, but it's fair to say Old Town is 100's if not 1000's of years old.
The photo was taken from a hospital that is under construction not by the PRT, but by USAID. There are many organizations beyond the PRT that fund and develop projects in Afghanistan. Some large ones besides USAID include Lewis Berger Group (LBG), World Food Program (WFP), Agricultural Development Team (ADT), and Afghanistan Engineering Development (AED). One of my biggest challenges is having to deconflict all of the projects so that a project is not double contracted. Unfortunately, these programs don't talk to each other as much as they should and double tapping projects has happened. Of note in the foreground is a wall. Afghans have been building them for thousands of years and I think it shows their best quality in construction.

That's some nice stonework.

Dear Drew,
My students and I are still following your stories. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us.
Are there any women in your military group? If yes, what are their jobs?
Mrs. Candy Boyer
We do have women on the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). Their jobs include operations, supply, and admin. Did you ask that question because it happens to be womens' month in Afghanistan?
